Recipes for Resilience is the 2019 recipient of Burners without Borders Civic Ignition Grant North East Region. The Civic Ignition Grant seeks to fund programs that create collaborations, produce direct actions, utilize several of the 10 Burning Man Principles, are reproducible, and creatively tackle local social problems.
We are honoured and excited to receive seed funding to kickstart from the Civic Ignition Micro Grant. At the core, Recipes for Resilience is a passion project about building community and elevating voices of womxn who are often unheard. The community cookbook that will take you on a fantastic food journey with undocumented migrant womxn living in Washington, D.C. It will include recipes that celebrate the rich food traditions of homes they left behind and practical advice from them on how to live a resilient life.
The recipe book will be illustrated by local artists and feature portrait photographs of recipe contributors. It will also include immigrant rights information, tips on how to be an ally, and information for violence against women services. The book will be launched on International Women’s Day next year and be made available as an E-book and print editions will be made available to participating community organizations.
